Political Street Action „Turn around H&M“, Part 1: Workshop

When? 23.11.18, 13:00 – 15:30 // Where? Rosenwerk (UG), Jagdweg 1-3, 01159 Dresden

On November 25, 2013, H&M made a landmark announcement: By 2018, around 850,000 workers in its so-called „flagship“ supplier factories were to receive a living wage. But the fast fashion company does not seem to remember the commitment it made…

To remind the Fashionforerunner of its promise, we warmly invite you to take part in the „Political Street Interventions“ workshop on 23.11, led by Ellen Muriel and Vivien Tauchmann. Street actions combine art and activism to draw attention to important socio-political issues through creative and surprising methods. We want to draw attention to the destructive effects of fast fashion on people and the environment on a local and international scale. By exploring creative and performative forms of action and their role in socio-ecological change, we will become active ourselves. Together we will set up a theatrical street action, which we will perform on the streets of Dresden on the 24.11, the nationwide campaign day of the campaign „Turn around H&M“ (Clean Clothes Campaign).

More information about the campaign: https://saubere-kleidung.de/turnaroundhm/

Everyone is welcome to join the workshop and action, prior knowledge is not required, but workshop spaces are limited. Please sign up: ellen.muriel[at]cambio-aktionswerkstatt.de

Ellen Muriel is a theater maker from England. In her work she uses various forms of music and theatre to bring different types of people together in oder to explore socio-political themes from contrasting perspectives.

Kunststoffschmiede Workshop Part 1

When? 23.11.18, 17:00 – 20:00 // Where? Kunststoffschmiede Container at Rosenwerk, Jagdweg 1-3, 01159 Dresden

Plastic lasts forever, but the products made out of it often do not. Furthermore only a small percentage of plastic is actually recycled but the production and disposal processes of plastics are usually exclusive industry knowledge that is unfortunately not so wellknown and accessible to the general public. Thankfully the Kunststoffschmiede shows a variety of ways to make it all easier to understand and thus recycles specialist knowledge into general knowledge.

In the recycling workshops we will deal with the topic of local plastic recycling schemes and specifically the recycling of the raw plastic material itself. Thematic backgrounds will be taught, discussed and practically applied within 3 half-day sessions. On the first day (Friday) we will focus on the theory as well as the nature of plastic. On the second day (Saturday) we will work practically with sorting, cleaning and shredding different types of plastic. On the third day (open workshop Wednesday) you are invited to experiment freely and creatively with different techniques.

Workshop schedule:

23./ 24./ 28. NOV // Recycling-Workshop
Friday 23.11. — 17:30 – 20:00
Saturday 24.11. — 14:00 – 18:00
Wednesday 28.11. — 17:00 – 20:00

Sign up to the workshop and reserve a place: betti@konglomerat.org

VASiSTAS TV #4 Space, Politics & Art

When? 23.11.18, 17:30 – 20:00 // Where? Rosenwerk (UG), Jagdweg 1-3, 01159 Dresden

Space, endless spaces …
Once upon a time, long ago in a far, far away galaxy …

These two openers from the two most famous sci-fi universes in film history are well known to at least the fans of Star Trek & Star Wars. We want to break open unknown realms with! What connects art with science and politics, is there an extraterrestrial life, why does Captain Kirk always get all the women, hows it going with „Astro“ Alex in the ISS and what do we do with all the space junk?

But we also want to address the question: how important is art in political discourse, and which forms can it take?

On November 23 we will discuss all of this and much more with DIANA WEHMEIER from PLASMA magazine, JULIANE MÜLLER from CAMBIO e.V. + SPECIAL GUEST, followed by live music from Loveisrare from Leipzig.

ATTENTION! There are only a limited number of seats for the screening, so we recommend a reservation:

Late Night Philosophy with Eric Eggert

When? 23.11.18, ab 20:30 // Where? Rosenwerk (UG), Jagdweg 1-3, 01159 Dresden

In his famous art-essay Walter Benjamin warns against an „aestheticization of politics“, which he opposes with a „politicization of aesthetics“. Even today, leftists tend to think of art and politics in a productive context (as the festival title „Political Art Days“ proves), while the IS’s political propaganda produces death-story videos in cinema quality. In his lecture, Eric Eggert will first outline the historical dynamics of the concepts of art and politics with Ranciére, followed with reference to Agamben and Deleuze, to ask about the potential for resistance in art. The central question is: Which concepts of art make sense today in order to respond critically to political discourses? Eggert will also present various works that intervene with the political sphere in a variety of ways.

ERIC EGGERT, born in 1987 in Görlitz, is a philosopher and musician. He is interested in the interface of ethical and aesthetic discourses. He has worked in various projects as a composer, dramaturg and philosophical accompaniment, including: a. with Josefine Patzelt („detour maps“), flies & tales („One must still know how to disappear“, „none of us“, „expecting light“), Overhead Project („Surround“, „My body is your body“), Michael Baumann and Josefine Patzelt („Wicked Watches“), Sergiu Zorger („Into the Night“) and premiered in 2017 with his production „Das Wesen der Ferne“.

Transformative Advert-Art, Workshop

When? 24.11.18, 14:00 – 18:00 // Where? Rosenwerk (UG), Jagdweg 1-3, 01159 Dresden

Annoyed by adverts? They stand on every street corner, determined to manipulate us into buying things we don’t need, filling our heads with misleading, superficial rhetoric. Are you bored of these repetitive, trivial lies?

Then come along and join the Adbusting Workshop!

What is it? Adbusting is a form of political street art, a creative criticism of our capitalistic society. Existing adverts are creatively adjusted to be given new meanings, with small and subtle modifications or obvious, radical changes.

In this workshop you have the chance to learn about different techniques of adbusting and try it out yourself. The speaker is a street artist and active for the Action Academy of Attac.
